This year Young Disciples and OLPH Youth will be hosting MARTINMAS - The Feast Day of Saint Martin de Tours on Monday, November 11, 2019 starting at 3pm.

The children will learn the inspiring story of Saint Martin de Tours and the traditions and customs for celebrating his feast day. His compassion for the poor and less fortunate are remembered in so many beautiful ways. This event brings together these traditions, raises money, food and clothing for people in need while deepening our faith and community.

If you are able please consider donating or saying prayers for the two charities we have chosen this year- The Marian Centre and Sherwood Park Food bank.

"Saint Martin of Tours was a Roman soldier who was baptised as an adult and became a bishop in a French town. The most famous legend concerning him was that he had once cut his cloak in half to share with a beggar during a snowstorm, to save the latter from the cold. That night, he dreamt of Jesus , wearing the half-cloak and saying to the angels, "Here is Martin, the Roman soldier who is now baptised; he has clothed me."

Young Disciples will make paper lanterns that will have electric tea lights within them. The lanterns and songs taught at YD will be used during the outdoor procession after mass.

The mass will begin at 3pm and the outdoor procession will start shortly after and be led by a horse. The procession will be in the front part of the church property and end outside the main hall in the back of the church building with a large bonfire.

A dinner reception will be held inside the hall and food can be purchased for $5 a person or $25 for a family (of 5 or more) cash only.

You do not need to RSVP for this event but it would be greatly appreciated!!
Martinmas is open to the whole Catholic community and all are welcome to join!
